The Institute for Justice and Reconciliation (IFJR) exists to:
confront and address unethical and prejudicial practices within churches, encouraging accountability, equity, and reconciliation. Grounded in biblical principles of justice and love, we empower churches to identify and dismantle systemic biases, embrace cultural diversity, and restore their witness as beacons of Christ’s love and unity.
Justice and Reconciliation: A Path to Healing and Hope
Justice and reconciliation are the cornerstones of a fair and unified world. Justice demands that we confront inequality, challenge oppression, and ensure equity for all, while reconciliation calls us to heal broken relationships, forgive past wrongs, and build bridges of understanding. Together, they remind us that true peace comes from addressing harm and restoring dignity. Rooted in the belief that every person is created in God’s image, this journey invites us to create a world where love, fairness, and compassion prevail. Let us pursue justice and reconciliation as a continuous mission, transforming communities and reflecting the hope of God’s kingdom.
Awareness and Advocacy
As believers, we are called to be voices for the voiceless and champions of justice. Scripture reminds us in Proverbs 31:8-9 to "Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy." This duty of awareness and advocacy is not optional but a sacred responsibility, reflecting God’s heart for justice and His command to love our neighbours as ourselves (Matthew 22:39). By raising awareness and advocating for the marginalised, we fulfill our calling to be salt and light in the world (Matthew 5:13-16).
Policy Reform
As followers of Christ, we are called to engage in policy reform as an extension of our faith. Micah 6:8 instructs us to "act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God," which includes advocating for laws and systems that reflect God’s justice and compassion. Proverbs 29:4 reminds us that "by justice a king gives a country stability," highlighting the importance of righteous governance. By working to reform policies that perpetuate inequality and harm, we fulfill our duty to create a society that upholds the dignity and rights of all, aligning with God’s vision of a just and equitable world.
As believers, we are called to pursue policy reconciliation, bridging divides and healing broken systems. 2 Corinthians 5:18-19 reminds us that "God reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation," urging us to restore relationships and systems to reflect His peace. Matthew 5:9 declares, "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God," emphasising our role in encouraging unity and justice. By advocating for policies that repair harm, promote equity, and restore trust, we fulfill our divine mandate to be agents of reconciliation in a fractured world.
Reconciliation
Justice Projects
Our cases are chosen to address those who demonstrate a disregard for listening, accountability, or change—individuals, organisations, or systems that perpetuate harm without remorse or willingness to reform. These are the situations where injustice is deeply entrenched, and the voices of the marginalised are ignored or silenced. By focusing on these challenging cases, we aim to confront indifference, challenge systemic oppression, and compel transformation. Through advocacy, education, and the relentless pursuit of justice, we seek to break cycles of harm and create pathways for reconciliation, even in the face of resistance. This is where our mission becomes most critical: standing firm for those who have been overlooked and holding the unyielding accountable to the principles of justice and love.
